We love type. We’re also committed to helping arts and design students learn more about typography. This year TypeCon is taking place in Denver, so we’re running a contest to send two Colorado students to the conference.

What do you win?

  • The grand-prize winner will receive one main conference student pass and access to the Design + Eduction Forum (a value of $250).
  • The second-place winner will receive one main conference student pass (a value of $200).
  • An additional eight runners-up will receive a $50 discount student registration for the main conference.
  • All 10 winners will have their submissions displayed in one of the gallery spaces at TypeCon.

Who qualifies?

You can enter the contest if you’re a student in a design or fine arts program at a university or college in Colorado.

How to enter

1. Create an original type sample inspired by the neon signs of Denver’s Colfax neighborhood. (If you’re not sure what a type sample looks like, we’ve included some of our own at the bottom of this page.)
2. You can use a typeface you already have or hand-letter the sample. Or you can use Ne10 by Corey Holms (a typeface inspired by a neon sign). We’ll give that to qualifying students for free. Email us at submissions@fairgoods.com if you’d like a copy.
3. Submit your digital sample by emailing it to submissions@fairgoods.com by 11:59 pm PST on June 30, 2015. Your submission must be 10″ x 10″ and an unlocked 300 DPI, press-ready PDF file. Make sure your file is Mac-compatible and scalable, and remember to convert your type to outlines.
4. One grand-prize winner and a second-place winner will be selected, plus eight runners-up. The top 10 submissions will be displayed in the exhibits space at TypeCon.

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED. The term of the Fairgoods TypeCon 2015 Contest is April 10, 2015 through June 30, 2015. Contest is open to currently enrolled or returning students in a fine arts or design program at an accredited post-secondary school in the state of Colorado; who are legal residents of the United States (including the District of Columbia) and who are above the age of majority at the time of entry. Sponsor: Fairgoods, a division of Anagram, located at 119 14th Street NW, Suite 400, Calgary, Alberta, Canada T2N 1Z6. Read the full terms and conditions.

  1. I have tried to submit a file more than once to this competition and often times the upload times out. I think one of my attempts went through but there wasn’t a confirmation of a successful submission so I’m not sure. If you received my submission that would be great if not I will try, try again to get my file to you.

  2. Hello,

I think I submitted my type sample but there was never a confirmation. Is there anyway for me to know if the submission went through?

      Hi, Danny.

We checked and it never went through. You can try resubmitting – a green confirmation message should appear at the end of the post – or email it directly to submissions@fairgoods.com.

  4. Hello!

I am wondering when the results will be announced, or where I can look for those. I am planning a vacation around the dates of type con, so I would love to know whether I placed in the contest.

    Many thanks,
    Olivia
