DIY: #pie stencil

What you’ll need:
Pie plate
Rolling pin

1

STEP ONE
Make the dough for your pie crust and the filling. Sprinkle your surface with flour, then roll out the dough with a rolling pin until it’s about 1/8-inch thick.

2

STEP TWO
Once your dough is rolled out, place your pie dish upside down and cut around it with a butter knife.

3

STEP THREE
Flip the dish and the dough over and press the dough snugly into the pan.

4

STEP FOUR
Add the strawberry rhubarb filling.

STEP FIVE
Roll out some more dough until it’s about 1/8-inch thick to make the top crust.

7

STEP SIX
Cut off any excess dough around the dish using a butter knife.

8

STEP SEVEN
Using a fork, make imprints around the edge to press the pastry together. This will also give the crust a nice, finished edge.

STEP EIGHT
Now it’s time to make the #pie type out of dough.  Roll out some more dough again, but this time on a piece of wax or parchment paper. Place your template on top, and using a clean X-ACTO knife, cut around the letters, into the dough.

STEP NINE
Pull away the dough until just the word is left on the parchment paper.  Gently lift up the paper and turn it upside down on top of the pie. Adjust the letters if needed.
