In early April, we had the privilege of participating and sponsoring Craftcation, a conference that brings together bloggers, makers, and hobbyists to share expertise and, more importantly, the passion for making and making creativity a part of your life. The event took place in Ventura, California, and the location could not have been better for a couple of Canadians craving warmer weather and sunshine. And where else do you start a conference with craft beers and cross-stitching?
The energy was contagious and definitely originated with the organizers, Nicole and Delilah. Every detail of the event was well thought out and an extension of the crafting theme. From hotel walls decorated with washi tape to each event having a crafting component, every opportunity to reinforce and inspire making was embraced. The four-day conference was a whirlwind of meeting new people, hands-on learning, and gaining insight from other leaders in the blogging and handmade industry. But it also allowed us time to enjoy the meditative aspect of creating. We played with flowers, ink, thread, sequins, potatoes, feathers, and lots of hot glue.
Fairgoods was the sponsor for a number of classes, including Photography + Styling with Emily Reiter and Brittni Mehlhoff and Block Printing Your Own Fabric with Christine Haynes. (Watch for some new DIYs and patterns coming into our store in the near future.)
We also offered a class of our own featuring Laura Worthington’s newest typeface Adorn. We taught a group of about 20 participants how to create a monogram stamp using image-transfer and carving techniques. The results were pretty fantastic. And, during happy hour, we set up a table and shared how to make your own cute drink stirrers.
Thanks, Craftcation. We can’t wait to come back next year!
