DIY: Typographic cake stencil

final

What you’ll need:

Ingredients

STEP ONE

Print your free cake stencil, which you can download from the link above. (Since it’s our first anniversary, we chose Treat Yo Self — set in Neil Summerour’s Anago — because we love Parks and Recreation. And treating ourselves. It’s really just the best.) Tape your design to a piece of thick paper, preferably card stock. If you don’t have any, you can cut a piece from an empty cereal box and print on the blank side.

STEP TWO

Using your X-ACTO knife, carefully cut around the black lines on the template, making sure you’re cutting through the card stock.

STEP THREE

Once you’re done cutting out the letters, cut around the circle and tabs.

STEP FOUR

Place your stencil over the cake, making sure it’s sitting flat. Take your sifter of icing sugar and carefully shake over the stencil, taking care to evenly cover the letters. When you’re finished, carefully lift up the stencil (and try to avoid letting more sugar fall onto the cake).

STEP FIVE

Add sprinkles or any other decorations you like and serve!

Wish us happy birthday on Twitter using #HBDFairgoods, and you’ll be entered to win a sweet prize. (Ends at 11:59 pm on April 26, 2014, just like our birthday week.)
